Sacred Pine Trees #1 by JUNHO

Samneung(Three royal tombs) in Gyeongju Bae-dong, Korea. Samreung Pine forest is one place among the most beautiful places in Korea. Large, small, thin, and thick pine trees meander as they please. Why are the pine trees of Gyeongju the only ones in the city that are winding? According to one opinion, this could be attributed to the Silla era, when more than 170,000 houses existed. To build such a city, a huge number of woods were probably needed, and as the people cut the large and straight pine trees for such purpose, only the small and bent ones eventually managed to survive for use by their descendants. This place is more famous as a forest with such pine trees rather than as royal tombs. Particularly in spring, when the azaleas blossom among the pine trees, the place is filled with springtime picnickers. via 500px

Bagan by ApisakKanjanapusit

Bagan (Burmese: ပုဂံ; MLCTS: pu.gam, IPA: [bəɡàɴ]; formerly Pagan) is an ancient city located in the Mandalay Region of Burma (Myanmar). From the 9th to 13th centuries, the city was the capital of the Kingdom of Pagan, the first kingdom to unify the regions that would later constitute modern Myanmar. During the kingdom's height between the 11th and 13th centuries, over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains alone, of which the remains of over 2200 temples and pagodas still survive to the present day. via 500px

Camping on the volcano Etna by marcocalandra89

Facebook page: Marco Calandra Photography Website: http://ift.tt/JX9CaF Google +: Marco Calandra A few weeks before the eruption of October 26 2013, the south-east crater of Etna had already manifested phenomena of explosive activity. On the evening of October 25, I made an arrangement with my cousin for camping on the volcano and making several photographs. Later that day we started to walk down the path that would have taken us to the Valle del Bove. Once there, we put up the tent and spent the night taking several photographs. During the first hours of the night we started to hear some roars coming from the crater, so we looked out of the tent and saw that it had started to erupt, resuming its explosive activity which had stopped a few weeks before. It was a great sensation to see a spectacle of nature like that and be one of the firsts to see it so closely. So we caught the opportunity to film and photograph in order to keep it as a memory, not just a mental one, but also visual one. via 500px

Liberating from Samsara by ArturStanisz

Photography is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get. This is its greatness and pitfall because it challenges ones ability to react to rapidly changing and usually hard to forecast light conditions. The photographer might be ready to shoot certain landscape, have great, carefully chosen and distinguished composition capturing amazing natural wonder, the best equipment to use, but light or weather conditions can easily prohibit perfect photo execution. In situations like this some photographers might see a loss, I see an opportunity. If light doesn’t happen in the chosen direction I don’t pack my gear and go, but I look around trying to find the composition that could complement the light happening in the opposite direction. This is exactly what happened with this photo. Everybody who has ever visited Patagonia can vouch that Patagonian forest with its bonsai –like trees is one of the most fascinating jewels of Patagonia. Since I saw Patagonia’s trees for the first time their shapes, strength and raw beauty mesmerized me. I took many photos of them, but only just a few have been able to show the essence of Patagonia’s landscape. For this particular evening when I took this photo I planned totally different composition, the one that was suppose to showcase big mountains in the background. Unfortunately, the light above the mountains was not happening. So I quickly looked around and decided to take the opportunity of this phenomenal light that was occurring in exactly opposite direction. Shortly afterwards I noticed this dead tree. It looked as if it was reaching for the sky begging for liberation. It was old and tired as if it experienced many fights with Patagonian wind. via 500px

water from stone by MWWphotography

The Paria Canyon - Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness Cliffs Area contains some of the most other-worldly landscapes one could imagine. It takes a bit of doing to find your way back in here as the sand tracks are largely unmarked and any services are non-existent. But the reward for the effort is awe-inspiring. I'll never forget the night a spent here sleeping on the desert floor under the Milky Way. via 500px

Nen Cenedril by AmanAnuraj

This was from the first night of camping in the Ogilvie Mountains in Tombstone Territorial Park. We were a bit off with fall colors but got above average auroras. And hey people, it didn't even take months between edits! I'm fairly critical of my own work I'd like to think, but I daresay this one came out looking reasonably decent. (Hopefully this means my logjam of editing is finally over and I'll have some good photos up in the coming days!) via 500px
