Winter Wonderland by KenKaminesky

One of the most unique scenes I've had a chance to photograph was this snowy morning around Christmas time a few years ago in Florence. It has not snowed in 25 years in Florence and i just happened to be there at the right time. Fortune favours the weary traveller. I feel so lucky that I'm now able to bring photographers back with me to Italy on a yearly basis. Florence is just one of the awesome locations we experience in our Italy photography tours. To dare to get out when it's (really) cold... This is what I learnt Sunday evening. A breathtaking spectacle of nature in very low temperatures (14°F / -10°C). I'm so happy I decided (and managed) to confront the cold. I wish everybody to witness something like that in their lives. First I thought I'd only use some fingerless gloves to be able to carry my camera more carefully but I couldn't stand the cold for two minutes. It was in pain that I looked for my other gloves. I was a little scared for my gear too. The blowing snow... some actually froze around the zoom ring. Walking back to the car I realized that I had had a blast photographing that sunset. I would sit in the snow, run to capture the moment, I wouldn't think about anything else but the moment, I wouldn't care about anyone around me. A real moment of happiness. And then I wished I could do that every day. Champ du Feu, Alsace, France

++view on black++ This will be my last post for 2014. I would like to wish all of you a very, very happy and safe New Year! Thanks so much for all of your support in 2014 and I can't wait to see what the next year will bring! This image means a great deal to me as it was taken on a recent trip down to the gorge with my dad. He hadn't been down in that area since he was a child so I took him to one of my favorite areas down there to shoot photos with him. It's a memory that I won't soon forget and I'm so grateful that I'm still able to spend time with him and do things like this. I went with a faster shutter speed in an effort to really capture the textures of the water, specifically movement near the bottom. This was taken at Emerald Falls in the Gorton Creek area in the Columbia River Gorge of Oregon in the early afternoon light. Hope you guys enjoy it! Emerald Falls, Columbia River Gorge, OR
