Happy Fall! Autumn is here and the light is incredible. Please come see me on facebook for more images or to purchase my work! I hope everyone has a beautiful Saturday! This is one of our dahlias - Tropic Sun - at full bloom. The light in the fall is golden because of the earth's angle and position with the sun. It provides some pretty beautiful pictures! Dahlias will keep blooming until frost, some even make it through the soft frost. Once they start to wilt - leave them be! Don't cut them down until all of the foliage is brown and beginning to disintegrate. The same is true for many bulbous plants in the garden. The whole bloom season energy is taken out of the bulbs, once the wilt starts, the plant starts putting energy back into the bulbs. Those 2 to 3 weeks can make a huge difference in the bulb's performance next year! Some dahlias will not come back if they are immediately cut and unearthed after the frost. Another incredibly important fall garden tip; water, a lot. Mildew is not so much a concern anymore - if it appears cut and destroy the foliage before composting and covering the garden. But the more water perennials get in the fall the better the winter and spring they will have. Love and light; happy fall! Laura via 500px http://500px.com/photo/47636260
